[INTERVIEW] "Let's be happy together": Yerin Baek talks about her new album 'tellusboutyourself' Yerin Baek's new album <tellusboutyourself> has just arrived by our sides. The album with a total of 14 tracks including 2 title tracks '0415' and 'Hate you', showcases the variety of genres and a new world of Yerin Baek that was not seen previously. It has been a year since her first full-length album <Every letter I sent you.> came into the world and until today, how did she spend her time and with what thoughts? What kind of stories did she want to tell us? <HYPEBEAST> is here to briefly listen to Yerin Baek's inner thoughts. It's your new album in exactly a year. How have you been throughout this year of many changes? Yerin: I was a little upset because my performances and events etc. got cancelled because of COVID-19. Nevertheless, I am thankful that as a result I could spend some time refining and looking back at myself. Your albums seem to be often released in winter. Is this because you like winter? Yerin: Maybe because I was born in early summer, I like being warm! (laughs) I always make an effort to set the album release early in the year, but it always becomes late. It is eventually released in December this time round too. This album has 14 songs. They are all composed and written by you personally. What has been your greatest (source of) energy for being able to complete your album? Yerin: People. People make me feel bad, they also hurt me, while also making me happy. I have no choice but to be largely influenced by people. Most of the songs in this album are songs I worked on in 2019, and that period was when I was a little emotional. Although it is hard to choose one, which song do you have the most affection for? Yerin: If I have to choose one, I will choose 'I'm in love'. Was it November 2019? I went to Berlin. In November that year, although Berlin was really cold I still have memories of writing the lyrics there. It is a song filled with seasons! It is a song about the process of moving from a very cold winter into spring when snow melts. The music video has also become a hot topic amongst your fans. Personally, what do you think is the point (to look out for) in the music videos this time? Yerin: I will be appearing in the music video for 'Hate you'. Should I say this is the process of overcoming the camera phobia I originally have by a little? It was a little hard on me mentally but I am glad it wrapped up well. I am happy that to have a new music video where I appear in. The (song) titles are extremely specific/literal. You have also left memos in the teaser videos. What story did you want to tell the most in this album? Yerin: I want to express myself and the people who live with many personalities. My lyrics contain typical everyday life happenings that anyone can relate to. However, at the same time, they are all my personal stories. I think leaving my stories in the lyrics can be a pretty embarrassing thing. (laughs) Your teaser images this time consist of lines and dots to form a unique calendar image. What meaning does that have? Yerin: This album contains 13 of the songs I have written in the past one year in 2019. The song titles are originally of dates, like '0123' and '0126'. The grid in the photo indicates the dates I wrote the songs across 30 days in a month. Hehe. If the previous album was a letter sent from Yerin Baek, it feels like I am waiting for that reply in this album. Is there any hidden meaning behind the album's name? Yerin: It means 'talk about yourself to the countless selves in you'. I think each person has a different personality and colour to them. With that in mind, it is an album that is filled with many of my stuff. And I am also curious about the experiences of others. Lastly, if you have anything to say to the fans who have waited a long time for this album, please do. Yerin: Really really thank you always. I will become a happy person! Let's be happy together. - Source: hypebeast.kr/2020/12/baek-yerin-new-album-tellusboutyourself-release-info-interview Translation by yerinBsupport
