Yerin Baek for Dazed Korea
It seems to me that you have gotten more tattoos. Do they have any meaning to them? Yerin: Not necessarily. I have gotten some tattoos with my favourite artists in mind. For example, Amy Winehouse and The 1975. I actually participated in the customised design and colours for them together with the tattooist. Being 23 this year, do you feel like you are an adult now? Yerin: Not at all. (Laughs) Rather, I had the thought that ‘I am now an adult!’ when I was one or two years younger. Up till now, my life has been mainly revolving around being a trainee/practicing, and because of that, I thought that working at my company was everything that I knew. Upon stepping out into the wider world, it doesn’t seem like a big deal anymore. While meeting people from various professions, it dawned upon me that actually ‘I am still a kid’. The Baek Yerin in year 2019 seems to have undergone many changes. One of many is the founding of your independent label. What do you think? Yerin: I am happy that I am able to leave and work with the people I like and the people who like me, such as the sound and stage director etc. This is a system that I have never knew of before, and now I have opened up more choices for myself.
