[INTERVIEW] Yerin Baek, how are you nowadays? Yerin Baek is here after working hard at loving herself for a long while now. Following the last album with a total of 18 songs, another full-length album containing 14 songs was released for the world in a year. Yerin: I have a strong workaholic tendency. As of 2020, I felt that the excessive worries and extra enthusiasm I have more than needed were making it hard for me. That's why I have not worked on any songs except for the arrangement since summer. I don’t know when my next album will be released (laugh). The title of the last album <Every letter I sent you.> was about ‘Me’, while the title of this album <tellusboutyourself> is about ‘You’. What do you want to include in the album? Yerin: The ‘you’ in ‘Tell me about you’ actually refer to the many egos/personalities in me. This is why it is safe to say that the 14 tracks are Yerin Baek’s 14 personalities. I was happy that the last album was loved by so many people, but I always felt apologetic that I couldn’t show myself now because I released songs that I wrote so long ago. However, this album is full of stories about me in the present (now). It’s an album that was created with only me in mind. R&B, Deep House, Synth-Pop, Modern Rock... This album is filled with various genres, so it feels like my ears are blessed in abundance. Yerin: Perhaps it’s because I have been working on music with more diverse genres than ever before. In addition to composing and writing all the songs, I also partook in the arrangement process more actively. I felt the importance of arrangement through “HOMESWEETHOME” whereby the process of working on the song gave rise to a totally new song. The most anticipated song is? Yerin: I‘m most curious about the responses to the two title songs with my new looks. ‘0415’ is the first song with Deep House genre that I’ve made, so I’m looking forward to how fans will accept it, and ‘Hate you’ is a song with a strong passion to the point where I wonder if I’ve ever cursed so much in my life, so I’m looking forward to it in a different sense (laugh). Apart from that, ‘I’m in love’ is a song that I want to play for as many people as possible. Out of the different kinds of love that I have in mind, I've chosen the one with the purest heart. This album is also filled with English lyrics. The word you want to emphasise the most is? Yerin: On the 5th track ‘Ms. Delicate’, I wrote the lyrics, “Forsaking us would never be your fault, you said”. I learned the word “Forsake” for the first time at this opportunity, which means “abandoning the things you have to be responsible for" and it seems attractive because there is no word in the Korean language that can adequately replace it. How is your daily life besides preparing for the album? Yerin: I’m living in and out of my house and the studio. I recently started a professional psychological consultation, and it’s nice because I feel like my mentality is getting healthier. It’s my first time staring straight at the camera for the album cover, and I like it because it makes me feel more confident. Are there any change of perception or enlightenment you experienced during this period of Corona? Yerin: I realised the importance of music. I believe that music is the only thing that makes life more luxurious even in difficult circumstances. Even at this very moment, I really ‘respect’ all the artists who constantly present their works and strive to perform Untact (meaning: doing things without direct contact with others) performances. The ‘Yerin Baek Style’ is always at the centre of the conversation. What is your latest favourite item? Yerin: A coat with faux fur! I’m buying everything I see. What is your own ritual or routine for the New Year? Yerin: I‘m sending ‘meat’ to my colleagues who make music together, performers, friends and family for the New Year. “Please take good care of me this year”. - Source: www.elle.co.kr/article/51020 Translation by yerinBsupport
