Yerin’s Interview with Onstage Digging Club Seoul 2019 What are your thoughts on participating in 'Onstage Digging Club Seoul'? Yerin: I feel honoured to be able to start off the beginning of this project! I usually also like to cover songs from other artists, and with that, I feel really happy that I am able to remake/interpret an original song and sing it! I managed to gain new energy while working on the song, and it was a very interesting challenge for me. Do you do a lot of digging usually? (t/n: digging as in searching for new songs) Yerin: For me, intentionally looking for new music to listen to doesn't seem to be of my style. Even if I receive a song recommendation I am firm on my likings, so I think I have already settled down on a particular style that I enjoy listening to. On that note, perhpas due to my father's influence since young, I find myself listening to old pop, 70 80 pop songs, 90 00 pop songs very often. Although I have no memory of how I managed to find these songs as a kid, I remember singing along to Jo Deok-bae teacher's '꿈에', Loveholic senior's 'Loveholic', Lee So-eun senior's '오래오래', and so on! Haha What is a song that you especially like among the 20th century domestic songs, if there is one? And the reason?
Yerin: I cannot pick just one! The first one is Jaurim senior's <Purple Heart> album that I listened to a lot since 1st year of middle school. There are so many songs that remind me of the thoughts I had and my situation then. The second being Kim Gun-mo senior's this one song <혼자만의 사랑>, I remember listening to this song often when I was really sad. Although I only learnt of this song after hearing Singer Lyn unnie sing it, but I really really like that song! The third one is Toy senior's <그럴때마다>, a song which I covered and uploaded and has a great meaning to me. 'Don't look for other people when you hate eating alone', when these lyrics came out the words felt really sad yet pretty. A song that I really like because it manages to express the way I think of love well! What is a song that you especially like among our country's 20th century songs, if there is one? And the reason? Yerin: Out of all the songs that were recommended by Onstage Digging Club Seoul curators, I listened to Jang Pil-soon senior's song. In my opinion her voice contained many personalities and elements combined together to make a sound (?), as I listened to Jang Pil-soon senior's voice it reminded of my own voice slightly, and with this thought that a lot of people will like this song even more if it was remade, I started working on it! (Hehe.. this is my personal opinion *embarrassed embarrassed* Last year for 'Onstage Digging Club Seoul' first song (George - After a long time) we collaborated with original singer Kim Hyun-cheol. What are your thoughts on the collaboration (with him this time)? Yerin: I was so surprised to hear that I was going to participate as a performer! It is also amazing that he knows me, because he is a teacher that brings many good songs into the world! The thought that I really have to work hard for this came to my mind. (t/n: Kim Hyun-Cheol is the composer for the original song) What do you want to say lastly? Yerin: Since I am young, there are many songs that were released in the past that I do not know of. There are many songs I would compare to glittering treasures that I did not get a chance to know of. That's why I think projects like 'Onstage Digging Club Seoul' are great projects that allow many people to meet great songs that they do not know of even with changing generations.
